Graduate workshop with Brazilian filmmaker Marcos Yoshi, who will be discussing his film Welcome Back, Farewell (Bem-vindos de novo, 2021) and his approach to first-person filmmaking and the Japanese Brazilian experience. The filmmaker will be visiting remotely, from Brazil.
Marcos Yoshi is a documentary filmmaker whose practice combines fiction, first-person, and essay film to produce a poetic portrait of the entanglements between history and everyday life through the lens of the Japanese Brazilian community. His other films include Aos Cuidados Dela (2020) and Quando o Céu Desce ao Chão (2012).
The workshop is a joint event with the screening of Welcome Back, Farewell at the UCI Latin American Film Festival, on February 4th, 5pm. All graduate students are welcome.
