The UCI Department of English is pleased to offer paid internships in marketing and communications and other fields for English majors with a demonstrated track record of academic success and an interest in applying their studies in an employment setting. Positions include on-campus placements with UCI departments and programs and opportunities to work with non-profits off campus.

Work Expectations
All students will be expected to work between 5-10 hours per week during the Fall quarter. Depending on the student's placement, other duties may include:
- Creating and editing social media content
- Interviewing alumni, professors, and students
- Researching and writing web and newsletter articles
- Producing videography and media edits
- Assisting in educational settings
Workshop Expectations
Workshop meets once a week. The following topics will be discussed during these weekly workshops:
- Developing professional skills
- Assessing skills inventories
- Writing online for diverse audiences
- Conducting interviews
- Designing social media strategies
- Engaging with visiting speakers with backgrounds in the humanities
- Completing a final multimedia project to assess your accomplishments
Crafting a Strong Application
When applying to our program, it is important to create a strong application.
- Positions are limited and priority will be given to juniors and seniors with a grade point average of 3.5 or above
- Complete all elements of the application by 5pm May 22nd, 2026
- Identify your skills and interests: Canva, web design, community outreach, videography, social media, research etc.
- Provide a thoughtful and specific statement about what you hope to gain from an internship experience
- Include a writing sample that demonstrates clarity and correctness
Timeline
- Info Session: Thursday, April 13, 4:00-5:00 pm via Zoom
- Deadline for Fall 2025 program: May 22, 5pm
- Notification of acceptance: Mid-June
- Placement with an employer: July/August 2025
- Onboarding: Meet with your employer, get on payroll, submit MOU, August/September 2025
- Fall program begins: Tuesday, September 21
