The UCI Department of English is pleased to offer paid internships in marketing and communications and other fields for English majors with a demonstrated track record of academic success and an interest in applying their studies in an employment setting. Positions include on-campus placements with UCI departments and programs and opportunities to work with non-profits off campus.

Fall 2026 Application


Work Expectations

All students will be expected to work between 5-10 hours per week during the Fall quarter. Depending on the student's placement, other duties may include:

  • Creating and editing social media content
  • Interviewing alumni, professors, and students
  • Researching and writing web and newsletter articles
  • Producing videography and media edits
  • Assisting in educational settings

Workshop Expectations

Workshop meets once a week. The following topics will be discussed during these weekly workshops:

  • Developing professional skills
  • Assessing skills inventories
  • Writing online for diverse audiences
  • Conducting interviews
  • Designing social media strategies
  • Engaging with visiting speakers with backgrounds in the humanities
  • Completing a final multimedia project to assess your accomplishments 

Crafting a Strong Application

When applying to our program, it is important to create a strong application. 

  • Positions are limited and priority will be given to juniors and seniors with a grade point average of 3.5 or above
  • Complete all elements of the application by 5pm May 22nd, 2026
  • Identify your skills and interests: Canva, web design, community outreach, videography, social media, research etc. 
  • Provide a thoughtful and specific statement about what you hope to gain from an internship experience
  • Include a writing sample that demonstrates clarity and correctness

Timeline

  • Info Session: Thursday, April 13, 4:00-5:00 pm via Zoom
  • Deadline for Fall 2025 program: May 22, 5pm
  • Notification of acceptance: Mid-June
  • Placement with an employer: July/August 2025
  • Onboarding: Meet with your employer, get on payroll, submit MOU, August/September 2025
  • Fall program begins: Tuesday, September 21
