School of Humanities Undergraduate Student Research Poster Showcase

It is a presentation method that combines a visual summary (the poster) with personal interaction (the verbal pitch). Presenters stand by their posters, giving brief overviews and answering questions about their research. This format allows you to present your research in a concise, visual format while engaging directly with attendees.

This is a wonderful opportunity to share your research and to gain experience communicating your research to public audiences. You can also use this as an opportunity to prepare for future presentations and symposiums; and to build and enhance professional skills such as public speaking, creating visual aids, and networking. Presenters will also have the opportunity to apply for and be considered for two new research showcase awards! 

Yes! If you have already presented or plan to present your research or a research poster elsewhere (for example the UC Irvine Undergraduate Research Symposium, the Humanities Honors Program Symposium, the Undergraduate History Conference, or the Humanities Core Research Symposium), we encourage you to present your work here as well! This is a unique opportunity to bring Humanities student researchers together and showcase their extraordinary and important work!

Yes, as long as you are a current UCI Humanities student! We welcome participants with little or no previous conference experience. This is a wonderful opportunity and welcoming environment for you to build experience.

Yes and yes! We will send detailed information on the poster requirements and hold a workshop for all presenters to make sure you feel comfortable putting together your poster. There will also be an opportunity to apply for poster funding.

The poster costs about $100-150 to print. We will provide presenters with detailed information on the poster requirements and printing locations and deadlines. There will also be an opportunity to apply for poster funding.  

An abstract is a short summary of your research or research paper. The purpose of the abstract is to give the poster session organizers a clear and concise understanding of your research. Abstracts should include: the context of your research or the current state of knowledge (what do we already know about your topic?); the topic or problem you will address or the question you will answer with your research; your methodology or resources; and a conclusion with what your research has found or demonstrated.

You do not need to submit your complete or final paper if you are applying to present a poster only. You only need to submit your complete and final paper if you would like to be considered for the Humanities Showcase Research Award.
