The Humanities Commons invites School of Humanities graduate students to apply to serve on a Graduate Student Advisory Committee.  Up to eight graduate students will be appointed to serve a 10 month term (September 2016 through June 2017).  The Advisory Committee will consult with Julia Lupton, Associate Dean for Research, and Amanda Jeanne Swain, Associate Director, on Humanities Commons programs designed to serve graduate students in the School.  The committee will also assist in planning and carrying out Grad Lab events on research development and professionalization.  Graduate student representatives will commit to attending a quarterly advisory committee meeting and to participating in and helping to publicize Grad Lab events.

Advisory committee members will receive a $300 stipend towards research expenses or conference travel. We are also seeking two co-chairs who will receive a $500 stipend each. Co-chairs will be responsible for organizing and facilitating the quarterly meetings.
Each representative will be responsible for planning one activity or project in collaboration with Julia and Amanda (and possibly a fellow advisory committee member) during the 2016-2017 academic year. Applicants should identify an area of interest: career planning (academic and multiple career paths), scholarly communications (presentations and publications), communications and audience-building, leadership and mentorship, pedagogy and grants and fellowships.
