Course description
This course explores gender representation in modern Korea through visual culture. We will examine a wide range of visual images that include fine arts, films, fashion, advertisement, landscape, architecture, and monuments. We will pay attention not only to the ways in which these visual media represent changing gender relationships along the tumultuous history of modern Korea but also to the strategic usage of visual media to shape and impact gender ideology.
