Please only pursue one advising route at a time, so that we can efficiently and effectively answer all student inquiries in a timely manner.
The Humanities Office of Undergraduate Study offers advising through email, online chat, virtual drop-ins via Zoom, and scheduled appointments via Zoom. Please read through the information below to determine which form of advising best works for you.

- Can I take this course as Pass/No Pass?
- When is the deadline to drop a class?
DROP-IN APPOINTMENTS (via Zoom)
One-on-one drop-in advising allows you to virtually meet with a School of Humanities academic advisor via Zoom for general advising questions, scheduling issues, degree requirements, and questions regarding school policies and procedures.
Drop-in appointments are available for current undergraduate Humanities students and non-Humanities students who have completed our Change of Major procedure (https://www.humanities.uci.edu/undergrad/students/changemajor.php). Non-Humanities students with a minor in the School of Humanities may only been seen through drop-in advising during Weeks 2 - 7 and 10 only. Students seeking readmission are not eligible for drop-in advising and must schedule an appointment.
Drop-ins are available Monday through Friday from 1pm to 3:30pm. To add yourself to the drop-in queue during scheduled hours, which will place you in a virtual line to meet with an advisor, please click here to fill out the request form. NOTE: This form is only available during drop-in hours and will not accept responses outside of drop-in hours.
Please make sure that your name on your UCI Zoom account matches your full name (first and last name) listed on your UCI student record. Students will be seen one-on-one on a first-come, first-serve basis. Drop-in advising meetings last approximately 15 minutes.
If you have just a few straightforward questions for a counselor, email is a great way to get the information you need. You can expect a response from a counselor within 48 business hours.
Examples of questions that can be asked via email:
- What do you think about this tentative course schedule?
- Can you help me decide how many units I should take?
- How many courses do I have remaining for my major?
New student advising will take place this summer throughout July and August. Details on this advising will be sent via email and posted on our Advising for New Freshmen and Advising for New Transfers pages in the coming weeks. For now, please continue to refer to the New Student Welcome Guide for information.
To email a counselor, click here. Please be sure to include all relevant information in your email and state your question(s) as clearly and concisely as possible to allow for an accurate and thorough response.
SCHEDULED APPOINTMENTS (via Zoom)
30-minute scheduled appointments are available for lengthier issues and questions such as readmission, academic course planning for multiple terms, and study abroad. Requests for appointments to discuss other issues may be directed to another form of advising. Same day appointments are not available.
Please note appointments are only available Monday through Friday 9am-12pm and 1pm-3pm during weeks 2-7, 10, finals week, and academic breaks. We do not see non-Humanities majors during Welcome Week, Week 1 or Weeks 8 & 9.
If you are not currently a Humanities major and want to change into or add a Humanities major please start with our Change of Major procedure and complete the verification form to be eligible for an appointment: https://www.humanities.uci.edu/undergrad/students/changemajor.php.
The scheduled appointment request form will be available again 5/26/21.
