The main goal of the Spanish/English Bilingual Education minor is to create a pathway to better prepare students who wish to become future bilingual teachers. The minor is also for students aspiring to work in other areas of education (e.g., STEM, counselors, speech pathologists) and would like to understand the experience of bilingual students. The minor can be completed by any UCI student regardless of major.
UCI minor paves the way for future bilingual teachers
To declare the minor, you must contact or visit the Undergaduate Studies Office in your home school (e.g., School of Humanities, School of Education, School of Social Science) and request to add the minor to your DegreeWorks. Please note that students do not need to complete any coursework to declare the minor.
Please note that all students must adhere to the Department's placement policies.
For students who place out of SPAN 3H and into upper-division courses, an additional upper-division Spanish course is required to fulfill the requirements.
For students interested in completing the UCI MAT Pathway for bilingual authorization, please note that successful completion of SPAN 3H, SPAN 101B, and SPAN 113B is required to qualify for a waiver of the CSET Spanish Subset III.
