John is pursuing an MFA in Fiction at UC Irvine and an MA in English at Middlebury College. At Irvine, he teaches a composition course grounded in Case and Deaton’s landmark 2015 paper on rising U.S. morbidity and mortality. His undergraduate coursework at Dartmouth College included classes on the neuroscience of addiction and the ethics of paternalism. Before transmogrifying into an Anteater, he worked as a consultant in the biopharma industry, a product manager for long-wavelength infrared cameras, and a server at a spaghetti-western-themed restaurant.
