The following information is relevant to Composition courses ONLY: WR 40, 45, 50, and 60. For additional information regarding WR 30 or WR 31, please contact the English Department at english@uci.edu.

Starting at 9:00 am on Monday, September 23rd, 2024:

  • “X” code restrictions will be placed on all Writing courses, and students will require an authorization code to enroll in or drop these courses.
  • The Composition WAITLIST will open.  Anyone who does not already have a spot in a section and who wishes to enroll in Writing courses will need to sign up.
  • Do not ask instructors for authorization codes. The process of giving out authorization codes has changed, and the Composition Office now oversees all aspects of enrollment for Writing courses, including adding, dropping, and changing grade option to P/NP.

ENROLLMENT TIMELINE: 

Add Deadline – Friday of Week 1The deadline to add a Composition course (WR 40, 45, 50, or 60) is FRIDAY OF WEEK 1. After Week 1, enrollment will be closed, and students will not be authorized to add a Writing course.  

Drop/Change Grading Option Deadline – Friday of Week 2The deadline to drop or change your grading option for Writing courses is FRIDAY OF WEEK 2. After Week 2, students will no longer be permitted to drop or change their grading option except through the enrollment exception process.  

Attendance Requirements – First Day Attendance Rule: Students enrolled in Writing 40, 45, 50, and 60 are REQUIRED TO ATTEND THE ENTIRE FIRST CLASS MEETING. Enrolled students who do not show up to the first class meeting WILL BE DROPPED and must formally drop the course in WebReg. 

ONCE YOU SUBMIT AN ADD/DROP/CHANGE REQUEST TO COMPOSITION: 

  • Check your email regularly for a message from writing@uci.edu. We only contact you if we are able to find a seat for you. 
  • Complete all required actions (add, drop, change grade option) in Student Access by 8:00am the day after Composition emails you with an authorization code.
  • If you do not adhere to the deadline, we will give your seat to another student if you were trying to add, or manually drop you from the course if you were planning on dropping.
