The Program in Global Languages and Communication at UC Irvine is guided by an overarching philosophy that views all the languages of the world, along with their respective registers, in a horizontal and non-hierarchical, as opposed to vertically stratified, relationship with one another.

AE Academic Coordinator Neda Sahranavard was named the 2020 TESOL Teacher of the Year and awarded the 2020 CATESOL Gail Weinstein Teacher Recognition Award.
