In this workshop, participants will learn movements and meanings from Bhangra, a dance form from Punjab in India and Pakistan. Bhangra is traditionally a harvest dance and today is a practice of celebration and community. Dancers will also learn movements and meanings from Guinea, West Africa. Each dance from the region is related to a rite of passage or important life event. Finally, dancers will be able to explore the 2 rivers of these movements flowing together as Joti and Bongo take us on an embodied multilingual journey. The class will be accompanied by live drumming. Open to all levels of experience with dance.
