Dara holds a MFA (JHU Writing Seminars) and PhD (Bath Spa University, UK) in creative writing with a focus on memoir and narratives of the self. In her composition courses, students explore writing as a process, finding the hacks and methods that make writing feel more possible, less overwhelming, and ultimately more rewarding for each individual. In her own work, she writes memoir, documentary theatre, plays, and poetry/lyrics.

Course Descriptions:

  • What should we—citizens, business owners, voters, employers and employees, politicians, and advocates—do about problematic or troubling speech protected by the First Amendment? Whether you choose to write about medical misinformation, hate speech, reproductive rights, or social media, it will be your job to dig into the gray areas.

Textbooks Needed:

  • Students will not be required to purchase textbooks beyond the AGWR on Perusall. Texts, including scholarly, journalistic, personal, and advocacy-based writings, will be made available via link or PDF on Canvas.
