To celebrate International Women's Day 2025, Christie's Hong Kong Limited is honoring three historic female art collectors on its social media platforms worldwide. Featured in "How women pioneers shape the art world across centuries" is IDEA: Isabella d'Este Archive, a multi-dimensional, collaborative project headed by UCI Professor of Italian and European Studies Deanna Shemek. The Italian Renaissance princess Isabella d'Este (1474-1539) performed many functions as co-ruler of Mantua with her husband the Marchese Francesco II Gonzaga: diplomat, correspondent, dynastic power broker, fashion innovator. She was also a passionate collector and the first woman in Europe to commission and assemble artworks in a personalized, curated exhibition space. The renowned art auction house points readers seeking more information about Isabella's gallery rooms, the studiolo and grotta, to the immersive  Virtual Studiolo and other projects within IDEA for exploration of Isabella's remarkable achievements. For more on IDEA, check out this article by Kelly Anne Brown in the School of Humanities news.
