An academic and practicing artist, Dr. Denise Ferreira da Silva’s work addresses the ethico-political challenges of the global present. She is the author of Toward a Global Idea of Race (2007), A Dívida Impagavel (2019), Unpayable Debt (forthcoming) and co-editor (with Paula Chakravartty) of Race, Empire, and the Crisis of the Subprime (2013). In her keynote, she will respond to the many implications of the conference theme, Figuring Futures - Futures from/of Latin America, which includes (but is not limited to) dystopian art/literature, ancestral knowledges, indigenous worldviews, afrolatinamerican thought, racialization, decolonial thought, environmental issues, border crisis, anti-futurism.
