In January 2016 singers from the English Ballads and Broadsides Archive came to Irvine to perform a real Renaissance jig. This dramatic and musical form, often bawdy and very physical, came at the end of Renaissance dramas, including tragedies like Romeo and Juliet, as Professor Matthew Smith (Pacifc Azusa University) explained in his introductory lecture.
