This workshop introduces the basics of game design and digital storytelling with Twine, a tool used to create text-based interactive fiction games. It is intended for a beginner audience interested in learning how to tell non-linear stories with choices and branching narrative paths. It includes a brief overview of the genre of interactive fiction games and the tools used to create them, as well as a live demo of Twine Sugarcube 2, a version of Twine popular with solo indie game developers.
No prior coding or markup language experience needed!
If you want to follow along with the live demo portion of the session, it is suggested, but not required, that you download and install the latest desktop version of Twine to their device. Working with the Twine desktop app during the demo will enable you to try out the scripts and mechanics shown during the session and ask follow-up questions.
