Event Details
Opaque Media: A Workshop aims to bring scholars from the Humanities, Social Sciences, and Library & Information Sciences to bear on the theoretical and methodological questions surrounding grey media; i.e., research produced outside of commercial or academic channels, pertaining to the working of government departments and agencies, non-governmental organizations, private companies, consulting firms, and university centers (among others). Grey media encompasses the circulation—in print or electronic form—of a wide-range of objects, including working or white papers, policy documents, annual reports, project statements, vision documents, and contracts. This interdisciplinary workshop hopes to interrogate ways in which greyness mediates scholarly understandings of governments, bureaucracies, archives, or other units of administration.
The workshop will include two sessions organized around pre-readings and four sessions of participant presentations.
