Event Location: HIB 135

Event Details

This talk features Ambassador Mathias Mossberg (retired, Sweden), one of the longest serving European diplomats in the Israeli-Palestinian peace process, and Mark LeVine, professor of modern Middle Eastern history at UCI and author/editor of half a dozen books on Israel/Palestine. They are the editors of the just-published book One Land, Two States: Israel and Palestine as Parallel States (UC Press, 2014). LeVine will engage Ambassador Mossberg in a guided discussion of the untold history of Oslo in which Ambassador Mossberg participated, why the peace process failed, and how the seemingly radical idea of overlapping or "parallel states" developed by a team of leading Israeli, Palestinian and international scholars offers a practical solution to an intractable conflict. This is a unique opportunity for students, scholars and the public to learn about the important and vexing peace process from someone who spent 20 years at the heart of the negotiations.
