Early Cultures Symposium. Simpson considers early modernity’s forms of absolutism 14-17c, partly political, but especially theological, with especial focus on the development (and survival) of Calvinism; proposes dissent as itself absolutist. Jahner's title is "Taking Liberties: Dissent and the Medieval Rhetoric of Enfranchisement." Responses by Keith Topper, Political Science, and another faculty member to be announced.
