Art History majors have first priority followed by Art History and Archaeology minors, Art History MA students, and Visual Studies PhD students. Proposals from students demonstrating financial need are encouraged.

The Van Eaton Gallery, located in Sherman Oaks CA.  focuses on artifacts from Disneyland, animation, and popular culture. More about the Van Eaton Gallery.

Application Materials and Qualifications: Submit the following application materials here, with a copy to Cecilia Flanagan atc.flanagan@uci.edu:

Cover letter (one-page maximum) describing your interest and qualifications.
Your unofficial transcript reflecting a combined GPA of 3.0 or higher in art history courses at UCI and/or 3.0 overall GPA
Your resume (one-page maximum) including art history courses completed at UCI (you may attach a list of classes separately if needed), any previous internships, and any other relevant work, travel or volunteer experience.
Your art history faculty reference(s). You may also submit other references if you think they would be useful to our selection process.

The successful applicant should plan to spend a total of 60 hours at the internship and will receive a $1000 award and a stipend to cover transportation costs, which will be processed and paid following completion of the internships and submission of:

A one-page summary to be written by the intern describing what was learned, what skills were developed, what the intern specifically appreciated about the internship, how the experience could be improved, and any other relevant information.

A confirmation email and performance evaluation provided by the intern’s supervisor to c.flanagan@uci.edu. The intern will be responsible for requesting this document from the supervisor and follow up as needed.

Description of Tasks:
Checking in inventory by using Excel and FileMaker
Safely wrapping and storing inventory.
Image scanning
Content Writing and Proofreading.
Help with Exhibition set up and planning
Occasional customer interaction during Exhibit Hours.
Basic Photography or Image Editing
Inventory organization
Skills acquired through the Internship:
Learning the basics of programs including Excel, FileMaker, Photoshop, and more.
How to perform basic research on inventory.
How to properly care for and handle inventory.
(and possibly) Developing skills in Photography and Image Editing using Photoshop.
Working with Auction Manager to help plan and install an exhibition

Note: This position does have some lifting involved. Props and framed pieces can be up to 50 lbs. But usually are only 10 - 15 lbs. Anything over that uses a team of people or we outsource to independent contractors.
