Makiko James is a media strategist, actor, writer, and 15 year nonprofit professional (she started sophomore year of high school). She spent six years with Active Voice, a national organization tackling social issues through the creative use of film, where she coordinated on multiple social engagement campaigns including those of Food Inc., Welcome to Shelbyville, Gideon's Army, Kids for Cash, among others. She acted as a Special Project Advisor on documentary Seeking Asian Female, and co-producer of its sister web project, theyreallsobeautiful.com. Most recently, she's joined the staff of Women In Film LA, whose mandate is to ensure gender parity for women in entertainment leadership, and to preserve the legacies of all women within the media industries. An Upright Citizens Brigade and Groundlings trained improviser, you can see her perform monthly with her teams, Room to Improv and Solid Sevens, around LA. Maikiko holds a BFA in Dramatic Writing from Tisch School of the Arts at NYU.
