Message from Linda Haghi
From History, English, and Philosophy to Film, Media Studies and Visual Studies. From Iran, Korea, China, and around the world back to the United States, the UC Irvine School of Humanities’ faculty specialize in some of the most pressing issues affecting humanity. UC Irvine is proud to say that we are one of the nation’s leaders in the study of humanities, with several top-ranked programs in the country, and esteemed, award-winning faculty in many disciplines. While finding new ways to think about the problems of humanity, our faculty is teaching the next generation vital skills for this interconnected world. Skills such as writing, communication and analytic thinking, which have long-term, transformative impact on the lives of students. Many of our alumni testify to the power of what they learned at UCI, saying that their time at UCI shaped their careers and set the framework for their success.
We are invested in cultivating global citizens who graduate with critical skills of writing and communication. We think about how the humanities engrain intrinsic values necessary for a more informed, well-rounded individual. We’re proud to say that we’ve developed the “laboratory for a creative mind” which serves to provide our students with superior written and verbal skills and the ability to analyze and explore alternative ways of approaching life both in and outside of the classroom. Through history, global and cultural studies, our students are learning from the past to shape the future while broadening their perspectives about humanity. And the payoffs are quantifiable. As more of our students pursue internships, graduate school, and academic and professional careers, the foundation they received at UC Irvine makes them stand apart from their peers.
We also prize our relationships with the community. Shakespeare, Persian Studies, the author series, and Armenian lecture series are just a few examples of our educational events and lectures. These are designed to create a forum for learning and dialogue about the most pressing issues of our time.
With help from our donors, together we are changing lives. Your gift has a measurable impact on students, faculty, and our community. We’d love to hear from you about your experience with UC Irvine School of Humanities, as alumni, donor, and/or community member.
