The Climate Futures Collective (CFC) invites you to join our virtual study group meeting on Wednesday, April 22nd at 3:00 PM, which will be conducted via Zoom in sensitivity to COVID-19 concerns and social distancing protocol.
Readings for this meeting on Environmental Justice are listed below and (some) attached to this email.
We will be reading Julie Sze's latest book, Environmental Justice in a Moment of Danger (UC Press 2020), in anticipation of her keynote lecture at the upcoming CFC "Fluid Borders" conference, which will be held online. If possible, we highly encourage all participants to purchase a copy (now or after the pandemic subsides), as royalties go to support two Environmental Justice organizations who conduct urgent political work and with whom the author is involved: the Community Water Center in Visalia, California, and UPROSE in Sunset Park, Brooklyn. If, however, you are unable to purchase the text, Sze has generously given us access to an electronic copy for use in this meeting. We will provide a PDF file of the reading upon request, but we stress, at the author's request, that it not be circulated beyond the reading group due to the book's important financial obligations to the above organizations.
Please email CFC at climatefuturescollective@gmail.com if you would like to participate and we will provide you with the Zoom session link. As always, please feel welcome to forward this message to others.
