Call For Papers
2018 HGSA Graduate Conference
April 27th, 2018 – University of California, Irvine

Historians have a distinct role in shaping how historical narratives are told while also living in their own historical moment. With this unique positionality in mind, the aim of this year’s HGSA conference is to connect historical inquiries to the present and also consider the role our personal perspective plays in influencing our work. We invite papers from graduate students that implicitly or explicitly question how the past remains contested, negotiated, reshaped, and interpreted in historical scholarship. The broad scope of this conference is intended to bring together scholarship about various time periods, regions, and themes. Each panel will have a faculty moderator to provide commentary on submissions, and this year we will be featuring a Career Diversity Panel at the conference.

Keynote Speaker:
Alice Wexler
Historian of Medicine and Author of Mapping Fate:  A Memoir of Family, Risk, and Genetic Disease (1996) and The Woman Who Walked into the Sea: Huntington’s and the Making of a Genetic Disease (2008)

Please submit abstract proposals to Andrew Richter at acrichte@uci.edu  by March 2, 2018. Maximum 150 words.

Prizes will be awarded for best paper
