Visionary theatre artist Lisa Wolpe’s new solo show Shakespeare and the Alchemy of Gender offers a unique celebration of the power of the eloquence of Shakespeare to build empathy and understanding in a world
where the unspeakable seems to happen again and again. Wolpe has played more of the Bard's male roles than any woman in history, always to superlative reviews.

In Shakespeare and the Alchemy of Gender she performs Romeo, Hamlet, Richard III, Shylock and more, while exploring her growing awareness of her father’s life as a WWII war hero and Nazi resistance fighter. Her work speaks towards liberation from the "gender box" of expectations, and offers a unique and powerful perspective of courage, resilience and hope against her family's troubled background of war, sickness, suicide and despair.

Lisa Wolpe, actress, director, teacher and producer, is the Artistic Director of the Los Angeles Women's Shakespeare Company, an award-winning all-female, multi-cultural theater company that she founded in 1993. Ms. Wolpe produced, directed and played Iago in "Othello" at the Theatre @ Boston Court, as well as creating Jaquis in an all-female cowboy "As You Like It" and "Shylock" in LAWSC's production of "The Merchant of Venice," for which the company was nominated for four Ovation Awards, including "Best Actress" for Ms. Wolpe. She has produced 14 major Shakespeare plays for LAWSC, directing 12 and starring in them all.
