The School of Humanities is proud of its powerhouse faculty—world-class intellectuals in every department and program, including four Pulitzer Prize winners in the Department of English and Program in Literary Journalism. U.S. News and World Report recently ranked UCI number one in Critical Theory, a historic strength of our School. Many of our colleagues have received prestigious Guggenheim, American Council of Learned Societies, Fulbright, and NEH fellowships as well as coveted book prizes in their fields (such as an American Book Award and the Fairbanks Prize). Our elite MFA programs in Creative Writing count among their alumni celebrated authors of fiction, poetry, and non-fiction. Cultivating critical thinking and curiosity within their students, our colleagues are compassionate, engaged instructors who provide the best of a liberal arts education within a premier public university. Indeed, our colleagues frequently receive campus-wide teaching awards, such as those for community engagement, technological innovation, and Professor of the Year.
