Event Details

The graduate students with the Department of East Asian Languages and Literatures would like to invite you to a quarterly film & Discussion series. This quarter’s theme is Boundary, Crossing, and Community. Film screenings are free and followed by a short discussion. Light refreshments will be provided.

We will be screening Dooman River (2010, Dir. Zhang Lu) on Wednesday, October 7, 2015, 5:30 p.m. at HG1010. This film explores the relationship between North Korean refugees and Korean descendants on the frontier of North Korea and China. With a touching friendship between a Korean-Chinese boy and a North Korean boy, this film shows us the moment when the threshold of community emerges. In this era of massive refugee crisis, how can people live (not survive) together? In a discussion, we will talk about the concept of hospitality and the possibility of community.
