UCI English PhDs Career Paths Roundtable

 Humanities Center     Oct 22 2016 | 9:00 AM - 10:30 AM HG 1002

Led by Julia Obert, U of Wyoming (UCI-English 2010 PhD), the roundtable will address questions and concerns about graduate professionalization, publication, the job market, moving from dissertation to book, and the wild world of being a junior faculty member.  If you’re wondering what kinds of jobs are out there, how to pitch application materials for these different kinds of jobs, what an MLA interview or campus visit is like, how to get first publications under your belt, please consider attending this discussion. Anna Finn, Executive Assistant to the Provost and EVC at UC Riverside, will speak about alternative career paths for Ph.Ds in the Humanities. So, if you’re curious about what life as a junior faculty member involves at different kinds of institutions, or what applying for & holding an “alt-ac” job is like, we’re here to answer those questions. Please bring any queries you might have with you: we can speak to teaching, research, and service as audience interests direct.

The Round Table precedes the “Easter 1916: Revolution in Ireland and its Afterlives” conference, to which you are also warmly invited.

Light Refreshments Served.
