Populism in an Angry Age: Recent Developments in Africa, Europe, and Across the Globe

 Humanities Center     Oct 20 2016 | 5:00 PM - 6:30 PM Humanities Gateway (HG) 1800

Please join us on Thursday, October 20, 5-6:30 pm in UC Irvine's Humanities Gateway (HG) 1800 for a talk by Forum for the Academy and the Public titled "Populism in an Angry Age: Recent Developments in Africa, Europe, and Across the Globe".

This Forum for the Academy and the Public pop-up conversation will focus on the impact of new and old forms of populism, nationalism, and xenophobia. The discussion will be globally minded, as interrelated forces are affecting all parts of the world, including the United States.  Speakers will zero in, though, on violence and struggles for change in varied parts of Africa and on developments in Europe in the wake of the Nice attacks and the Brexit vote.

Opening remarks: Georges Van Den Abbeele (Dean of Humanities),
Moderator: Amy Wilentz (Co-Founder and Chair, Forum for the Academy and the Public)
Panelists: Olufunmilayo Arewa (Prof. Law School), Craig Calhoun (President, Berggruen Institute), Ian Coller (Prof. History), David Theo Goldberg (Director, UCHRI), Susan Morrissey (Prof. History)

This event is free and open to the public. No RSVP is required.
