Event Details

In her recently published book, Rumi’s Fables, Negar Niazi has translated over 20,000 verses from the Mathnavi into English. Embedded in the devotional poetry of the Mathnavi are many whimsical stories. In this collection of fables, Niazi has culled some of the most fascinating to entertain and challenge readers.

As an Iranian-American immigrant, Negar Niazi was brought up in a culture steeped in legends, myths, and poetry. Although her educational background is in the sciences, with a BS in Chemistry from UCLA and a Doctorate degree in Optometry from UC Berkeley, her life challenges rekindled her passion for the works of Rumi and led her to the path of a spiritual seeker. After Negar’s life changing diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis, she found herself on a journey into the world of mysticism, ancient literature, and mythology. She would like to share this new world through the magic of Rumi’s Fables.
