In a specially-scheduled visit to the UCI Music Department, COMPOSER HILDA PAREDES will give a presentation on her own music this WEDNESDAY FEBRUARY 24 AT 4:00 PM in ROOM 316 OF THE MUSIC AND MEDIA BUILDING. Following that presentation, at 5:30 PM she will lead a MASTER CLASS IN COMPOSITION. Both events are FREE AND OPEN TO THE PUBLIC. This lecture and master class are specially-scheduled events hosted by the Music Department's doctoral program in Integrated Composition, Improvisation, and Technology (ICIT [2]), exploring the diverse range of artists, practices, and aesthetics influencing contemporary musical culture.

Hilda Paredes was born in Tehuacan, Puebla, Mexico in 1957. She studied music composition in Great Britain, participating in master classes with Harrison Birtwistle, Richard Rodney Bennett, Peter Maxwell-Davies, and
Franco Donatoni. She holds a master's degree from City University in London and a Ph.D. from Manchester University. Ms. Paredes was the recipient of a Guggenheim Foundation fellowship in 2001. She has lectured and taught composition at various institutions, including Manchester University, the State University of New York at Buffalo, and the University of California at San Diego, and in 2007 she was appointed Darius Milhaud Visiting Professor at Mills College. Her recent work La tierra de la miel is part of a collaborative chamber opera by four composers, titled Cuatro corridos, commissioned by soprano Susan Narucki and premiered in San Diego in 2013.
