Please join us on Tuesday, February 5, 2019, 6:00 - 8:00 pm for the first talk in The Crucible of Empire Lecture Series, titled "Devote Yourself to Our Happiness: Christians, Courtiers, and the King of Kings in Sasanian Iran" by Professor Scott McDonough (William Paterson University)

Dr. Scott McDonough is an Associate Professor of History at William Paterson University. Scott McDonough teaches courses in Ancient and Medieval history of the Mediterranean and the Near East. He received his training at Cornell University and the University of California, Los Angeles. His research interests lie in the social, institutional and religious history of late ancient west Asia, especially Pre-Islamic Iran. He is currently working on a monograph, 'We Pray for Our Glorious King': Power, Patronage and Piety in Sasanian Iran, 220–651 CE.

These lecture series are organized by Professor Simcha Gross (UC Irvine) and Professor Touraj Daryaee (UC Irvine) and are sponsored by UCI Jordan Center for Persian Studies & Culture and UCI Humanities Commons.
