Few Christians are aware that Islam, though denying the divinity of Jesus Christ, affords him a religious importance among human beings second only to that of Muhammad. Traditional Muslims believe that Jesus was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary and that he will come again at the end of time to judge the living and the dead.

These and other, less familiar Muslim beliefs about Jesus are the subject of a recent book, Islam’s Jesus (University Press of Florida, 2014) by Prof. Zeki Saritoprak, who teaches at John Carroll University, a Catholic university in Ohio. Prof. Saritoprak’s doctoral dissertation, at the University of Marmara in Turkey, was entitled The Antichrist in Islamic Theology. His work in Muslim-Christian dialogue was the subject of a profile published in October 2014 in The Catholic Register - http://www.catholicregister.org/arts/item/18919-jesus-is-a-point-where-christians-muslims-can-meet

A Turkish scholar, whose Muslim faith reflects the Sufi tradition in Islam, is a follower of the influential Muslim sage—now in exile in the United States and sometimes called the Dalai Lama of Turkey—Fethullah Gulen.
