If translation is per se performative, and if the word "performance" doesn't translate well, what happens when performance is translated? How does the question of translating performance (and particularly performance poetry) test the limits of translation and, sometimes, the limits of translation itself? From his practice as a translator, as well as from his work on experimental poetry, Vincent Broqua will present works in translation by Anne Waldman, Robert Grenier, Charles Bernstein, and Tracie Morris.

Vincent Broqua is a Professor of North-American literature and arts at the University of Paris 8 Vincennes-Saint-Denis. He is also a writer and a translator. His research concentrates on questions of literality in experimental poetry and art. Based on his practice as a translator and as a writer, he developed a three-year research project "Translating performance / performing translation" (2017-2019). He is the co-founder of Double Change (doublechange.org) and founder and co-editor of the multilingual journal Quaderna (quaderna.org). Among his publications: A partir de rien: esthétique, poétique et politique de l'infime (2013), Récupérer (2015). In 2017, he co-translated Tracie Morris's Per-Form: Poems of Mythos and Place. Photocall (projet d'attendrissement) is forthcoming with P.O.L.
