This seminar will consider the nature, ontology, regulation, and use of money and monetary policy.  We'll draw from history and economics -- especially "heterodox" economics -- as well as from the social contract tradition in political philosophy.  We'll address contemporary debates about public finance, the size of government, and international monetary and financial institutions.
