Join the Literary Journalism Program and Kiosk: A Magazine of Literary Journalism for the program’s Fall Welcome Event, featuring a screening of "Where Dreams Rest" by Elaine Wong ’10:

Wong will screen her short film “Where Dreams Rest” (“Meng Gui Chu,” 2018 --Mandarin Chinese with English subtitles), followed by a Q & A about how she translated her training in reporting and nonfiction storytelling into her work in film and new media.  All welcome!  Light refreshments will be served.  For more information or for disability accommodations, contact Patricia Pierson at piersonp@uci.edu 

ABOUT ELAINE WONG:
Elaine graduated from the University of California, Irvine in 2010 where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Literary Journalism. She worked as a news writer and reporter at Sing Tao Daily (Western Edition) for three years. She has interned for Scott Hamilton Kennedy, an Academy-Award nominated filmmaker, and has also interned for producer Janet Yang. Elaine is currently completing her MFA in Film and Television Production at University of Southern California. Her previous short films have screened at festivals in San Francisco, Sacramento, New York, and Portland.

ABOUT “WHERE DREAMS REST”:
In this poetic and impressionistic coming-of-age film, Ah Wei, a young woman from rural China, decides to cross the U.S.-Mexico border through an underground tunnel to reunite with her husband in the United States. She soon realizes the journey is not about the crossing, but about bridging the discrepancies between expectation and reality once she arrives.
