"Working In Between: Interculturalism and the Integration of Syrian-Armenian Refugees to Montreal, Quebec" with Dr. Gabrielle Djerrahian

Since the arrival of Syrian refugees to Canada, there have been multiple government and community-based initiatives organized to help them resettle and re-build their lives. The Armenian community in Montreal, namely Hay Doun, a non-for profit that privately sponsored hundreds of refugees to the province of Quebec, spearheaded the wave of arrivals of Syrian refugees since 2013. One of the activities implemented by Hay Doun is a French Language Learning Support Program that paired up local French speaking Montrealers with Syrian-Armenian children refugees. In this presentation, Dr. Djerrahian assesses the social and cultural impacts of this program in light of Hay Dou n's global mission of integrating SyrianArmenians into the only French-speaking province of Canada.
