Congratulations to Caitlin Conklin, one of the two winners of FMS Summer Internship Award, with generous support from Sky Vision Insurance

FMS Summer Internship Awardee

Caitlin has spent the summer working with the New Swan Shakspeare Festival as the Assistant Stage Manager for the production of The Merchant of Venice.  Being described as one of the most important parts of the Summer Festival, some of Caitlin duties included creating weekly and daily schedules, attending every rehearsal and performance, and managing her own team of stagehands.

Caitlin had this to say about her internship: “New Swan has been a really amazing experience this summer. I went in not really knowing what to expect, but I’ve learned so much. Before New Swan, I had never really worked on a theatre production so I learned a lot about what working in theatre is like. For example, I learned how to write line notes, set up a prop table, how blocking actors for stage works, how to organize a run sheet, and so much more. Coming into New Swan I was nervous because I had no experience in theatre and I am a Film and Media Studies Major so I was worried if this was the right internship for me. But I quickly learned that this internship is so beneficial and has even taught me a lot that I can use within film production. I learned a lot from watching our Director Eli Simon work with the actors on how to deliver their lines or how they should be blocking a scene. I also learned a lot of organization skills that will be helpful with time management and props/costumes used within film. My main tip when it comes to internships is to be very open. I wasn’t sure if this internship was perfect for me, but I applied anyway and decided to take the position and I have learned so much from it. Even though I don’t plan on going into theatre, this internship has taught me so much and I am so grateful for the position and all the people that have helped teach me.”
