Facebook Statement:

I am so honored to be one of five recipients of the Nellie Ansley Reeves Campuswide Honors Collegium Thesis Award for my thesis, "The Romance Revolution: How Recent Romance Novels are Reimagining Romantic Identities" (the only thesis so honored in the Humanities).  My research examines the ways in which recent romance novels are reinventing the conventions of the most feminine literary genre and including more diverse authors and characters to appeal to a new generation of readers. Now more than ever it is important for genres as widely successful and popular as the romance genre is to include, celebrate, and amplify diverse narratives. This research experience has taught me so much and shown me that the best academic pursuits come from a combination of what I have learned and been trained to do in my classes as an English major, and my own personal interests and passions. I am thrilled to be a recipient of this award and to represent the School of Humanities and the English Department at UCI!  Thank you to my mentor, Professor Virginia Jackson, and to the staff at the Campuswide Honors Program!
