New Director of the ICWT

Professor Carrie Noland named Director of the International
Center for Writing and Translation.

Carrie Noland, Professor of French and Comparative Literature, has been
named the Director of the newly re-opened International Center for
Writing and Translation.  The mission of the Center is to support
projects in creative writing and translation.  She has proposed three
initiatives:  "Writing and Injustice" (on writers at risk, diasporic
writers); "Writing in the Expanded Field" (on the relations between
writing and the other arts); and "Untranslating Theory" (a series of
pop-up seminars that will introduce students to a theoretical text in
its original language). Faculty and students are encouraged to apply for
funding for projects that support creative writing or translation;
graduate students may apply for the Schaeffer Fellowships for summer
