Professor Peter Frei was the recipient of a Thomas Jefferson Fund (FACE Foundation / French Embassy in the US) 2018-2020 for the international research project “Obscene Means: The Politics of Obscenity in the Early Modern and Postmodern Mediaspheres”, co-directed with Nelly Labère, University of Bordeaux Montaigne.  The Fund also supported a conference at UC Irvine on February 27, 2019: “Politics of the Obscene: Obscenity and Its Mediations in Early Modern Europe.”  He has recently published “Rabelais et la politique de la littérature au XXe siècle: le cas Céline,"  L’Année rabelaisienne, 3, 2019; “Les aventures européennes de Rabelais: notes sur la généalogie d’un mythe”, in Roland Issler, Rolf Lohse and Ludger Scherer (eds.), Europäische Gründungsmythen im Dialog der Literaturen, Götting, V&R unipress, 2019; and “Imaginer le texte: François Villon et la poétique du livre au seuil de la modernité” in Marion Uhlig and Martin Rohde (eds.), Belles Lettres: les figures de l’écrit au Moyen Age, Wiesbaden, Reichert, 2019.
