Course description

Introduction to Modern Korea through Literature and Film. This is an undergraduate seminar that explores Korea from the late modern period to today.  We will examine modern Korean history, politics, society, and culture through close readings of key literary texts supplemented by films.  The novels we will read include Yom Sang-sob's <Three Generations>, Choi In-hun’s <The Square>, and Han Gang’s <The Vegetarian>.  As a seminar, the course purports to enhance students’ critical thinking, analytical skill, and persuasive writing.
