Professor Nisbet and students take an academic road trip to view land art over Thanksgiving Weekend 2018.

With thanks to the generosity of Vincent Steckler, Professor James Nisbet led a group of nearly two dozen undergraduate and graduate students across California, Nevada, and Utah this past Thanksgiving weekend.  Riding in a few vans, they set out to visit sites of Land Art, a modern art movement whose works can only be seen in the exact place they were made. From dry lake beds to the receding shoreline of The Great Salt Lake to vast desert vistas, the trip provided a unique opportunity for students to explore subjects they study in the classroom, and to personally experience the many connections— among both ideas and new friends—that can happen out in the field.
