Art History majors have first priority followed by Art History minors, Art History MA students, Visual Studies PhD students. Exceptional proposals will be considered from other School of Humanities majors and Art Department majors. Proposals from students demonstrating financial need are encouraged.

Application Materials and Qualifications:
Submit the following application materials for both the Laguna and UCI Museum internships to Cecilia Flanagan at c.flanagan@uci.edu:

  1. Cover letter (one-page maximum) describing your interest and qualifications.

  2. Your unofficial transcript reflecting a combined GPA of 3.0 or higher in art history courses at UCI and/or 3.0 overall GPA

  3. Your resume (one-page maximum) including art history courses completed at UCI (you may attach a list of classes separately if needed), any previous internships, and any other relevant work, travel or volunteer experience.

  4. Your art history faculty reference(s). You may also submit other references if you think they would be useful to our selection process.


The successful applicant should plan to spend a total of 60 hours at the internship and will receive a $1000 award to be processed and paid following completion of the internships and submission of:

A one-page summary to be written by the intern describing what was learned, what skills were developed, what the intern specifically appreciated about the internship and how the experience could be improved, and a confirmation email from the intern’s supervisor to c.flanagan@uci.edu

The Special Events Department is responsible for creating, leading and managing multiple donor cultivation events and major high-level fundraising events and initiatives. Major events include the annual Art Auction, Palette to Palate, Wendt Award Dinner, exhibition openings, as well as other member and Board events.

The Special Events intern will assist with Laguna Art Museum’s Centennial Celebration campaign, and with the 37th annual California Cool Art Auction. The Art Auction is a popular museum-curated event featuring original works by over 100 landmark California artists. This position is ideal for those seeking careers in curating, marketing, events, or development in the museum industry.

Daily tasks:

  • Artist research on potential artists for California Cool Art Auction 2019

  • Event coordination

  • Compiling checklists and data entry

  • Other events and development-related projects as necessary


Long-term projects/ goals:

  • Execution of major Centennial events including, but not limited to, Summer Exhibition Opening Reception, Centennial Ball, Centennial Birthday Party, Centennial Trolley Tour

  • Writing Art Auction didactic labels

  • Creating and managing the Art Auction Database


Learning outcomes for intern:

  • Experience with database management and event coordination

  • Hands-on curatorial and research experience at a leading arts institution

  • Experience with a Centennial Campaign


Minimum requirements:
Upper division students currently enrolled in undergraduate studies, graduate students, or recent graduates are encouraged to apply. Applicants should be confident, personable, capable writers and researchers, proficient in Microsoft Office, and have a rudimentary knowledge of California art history.
