Current Art History majors have first priority followed by Art History minors, 4+1 MA Art History students, and Visual Studies PhD students.  In exceptional cases, other current School of Humanities majors and Art Department majors may be considered.

Application Materials and Qualifications: Submit the following application materials for this internship and award to Cecilia Flanagan at c.flanagan@uci.edu:


  1. Cover letter (one-page maximum) describing your interest and qualifications.

  2. Your unofficial transcript reflecting a combined GPA of 3.0 or higher in art history courses at UCI and/or 3.0 overall GPA

  3. Your resume (one-page maximum) including art history courses completed at UCI (you may attach a list of classes separately if needed), any previous internships, and any other relevant work, travel or volunteer experience.

  4. Your art history faculty reference(s). You may also submit other references if you think they would be useful to our selection process.


The successful applicant should plan to spend a total of 60 hours at the internship and will receive a $1000 award to be processed and paid following completion of the internship and submission of:


  • A one-page summary to be written by the intern upon internship completion describing what was learned, what skills were developed, what the intern specifically appreciated about the internship and how the experience could be improved, and

  •  

  • A confirmation email from the intern’s supervisor to c.flanagan@uci.edu


Job Summary:

The Gallery @ WorkWell internship helps prepare undergraduate students for gallery careers. The intern will work alongside current professionals while gaining valuable skills, assisting with duties including, but not limited to: marketing materials, purchasing, and exhibition and program planning and execution.

The intern will work with Gallery Director, Jasmin Pannier (UCI Art History and 4+1 ‘16, FOAH internship recipient and past AHUA president) to gain a comprehensive understanding of gallery education. Candidates are current university students interested in pursuing a career in curatorial education, gaining experience, and/or contributing new ideas to the gallery.

Enthusiastic about interacting with the public and private buyers
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
Ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
Ability to work independently, many projects will be self-directed
Interest and a background in the arts, modern and contemporary visual art, a plus
