On September 29, 2018, the University of California, Irvine hosted the Armenian Studies Chairs and Directors Workshop. Houri Berberian, UCI Meghrouni Family Presidential Chair in Armenian Studies, welcomed current program chairs and directors from across the nation to discuss the field’s existing challenges and future prospects. The first to be held in more than a decade, the workshop was by invitation only, but the public was invited to meet participants at a reception following the workshop.

At the public reception, Berberian welcomed guests by saying, "That many of our Armenian Studies leaders have traveled long distances to be here serves as a reminder to us all just how important our work is and how essential it is to collaborate and be in conversation with each other for the continued development of the field of Armenian Studies. We hope this will be one of many conversations to come. Your presence this evening also tells me that you, too, appreciate and recognize the significance of Armenian Studies and conversations around it."
