New Opportunity!
Winter and Spring Quarters 2017
Asian American Studies Research Internship!

Are you interested in improving your research skills?  Learning more about the history of Asian American Studies at UCI?  Designing physical and virtual exhibits?  Then, enroll in ASAM 199 with Prof. J. Wu (j.wu@uci.edu) for winter and spring quarter!

UCI Asian American Studies is celebrating our 25th anniversary this year, and the Southeast Asian Archive is marking its 30th anniversary (For more information, please see: https://www.humanities.uci.edu/aas/).  To help us document and display our history at UCI, we invite interested students to become AAS Research Interns for winter and spring quarter!

Students will work with Prof. J. Wu (chair of AAS) and Dr. Thuy Vo Dang (Archivist for the Orange County and Southeast Asian Archive) to identify historical documents and possibly conduct oral histories related to the creation and evolution of Asian American Studies at UCI.  This includes the student protest movements that led to the establishment of AAS (For some historical footage, please see:  http://ucispace.lib.uci.edu/handle/10575/13712).

One goal of this project is to create a virtual and physical exhibit of the history of AAS at UCI.  We hope to debut the exhibit in conjunction with the Southeast Asian Archive 30th Anniversary exhibit in spring 2017!  The AAS virtual exhibit will be housed through the AAS or Library websites.

Students will benefit from this internship opportunity by learning research, presentation, and exhibition design skills.  Students may also choose to write research papers or journalistic articles based on the history that we are uncovering.  Students may choose to enroll for one quarter only, although enrolling in both is preferred.

For more information, please contact Prof J. Wu (j.wu@uci.edu) or Dr. Thuy Vo Dang (thuy.vodang@uci.edu before the start of winter quarter.
