Event Details

Please join us for the AFTERLIVES OF MARTIAL LAW pop-up event at this year's Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival (LAAPFF). It features an exhibit of archival photographs, scholarly talk, and book launch. AFTERLIVES is a year-long collaboration between Prof. Christine Bacareza Balance and the L.A.-based Asian American media arts organization Visual Communications, with assistance provided by Stefanie Lira (PhD candidate in History, UCI). This multi-media project has worked to digitize VC's photographic archive of 1970s/1980s anti-martial law organizing in Los Angeles. Through its programs, AFTERLIVES has also worked to engage and educate artists, scholars, and students about the role of the arts & artists during times of authoritarian rule.

This event is FREE & open to the public.
