Patsy Takemoto Mink, a third generation Japanese American from Hawaii, was the first woman of color U.S. Congressional Representative. She co-sponsored Title IX and other important legislation to advocate for women's rights, civil rights, environmental protection, and peace. She even ran for the U.S. Presidency in 1972.
