Imagining Archives: A Symposium

 Poetics, History, Theory at UCI     Feb 21 2020 | 9:30 AM - 7:00 PM Humanities Gateway 1030

What is an archive? What can we learn from archives? How do public archives differ from private ones? Is an archive a resource for scholarship or a product of scholarship? Is an archive an aspiration or a hidden collection of regrets? Do archives produce new knowledge or tell old stories?

This symposium features five distinguished scholars who have worked in, created, theorized, constructed, and de-constructed a variety of literary archives. They will talk about and through paper, digital, sound, visual, and imaginary archives, both past and present.

This is an all-day event. Each speaker will give a plenary paper which will be followed by time for ample discussion. Admission to the symposium is free and open to the public. Participants are encouraged to stay for the entire day in order to build one conversation across the five papers.
